SupportTeaching first aid to adults is our daily work. But teaching schoolchildren is a special challenge. Children are open and curious; they don’t respond to dry theory—they need to see, feel, and try things hands-on. That’s why our “STOP THE BLEED for Schoolchildren” course became such an important project for us, one we approached with great responsibility.
The first time students handled tourniquets, they couldn’t hide their emotions:
“Wow, this is awesome! My uncle is in the Armed Forces, I’ll tell him we practiced tamponing wounds on mannequins today!”“Yeah, I know this is a tourniquet! Can I practice with it? Really, can I?!”“Now I’m sure I want to be a doctor! This is it for me!”“Guess what? I’m going to check what’s in my parents’ car first aid kit and where it’s kept today.”
These words prove: the children weren’t just listening—they truly understood the importance of what they learned. And for us, that’s the highest praise, more valuable than any award.
Throughout February, the team of instructors from the NGO “Patriot” conducted STOP THE BLEED training in six Kyiv schools: Rusanivskyi Lyceum, Lyceum No. 120, Technical Lyceum of NTUU “KPI,” Kyiv-Pechersk Lyceum No. 171 “Leader,” Lyceum “Prestige,” and Specialized School No. 52. Over 290 high school students participated in these sessions.
Each training session included not only theoretical material but also practical exercises on methods to stop critical bleeding. The children had the opportunity to apply tourniquets, bandages, and learn how to tampon wounds on mannequins. This wasn’t just a lesson—it was a skill that could one day save a life.
We understand that in these lessons, we’re looking into the eyes of Ukraine’s future. And what we invest in our children today—knowledge, responsibility, and the ability to act in critical situations—could be decisive tomorrow.
