Not just an apartment or a house.
A home. The place where you grew up. Where your parents and grandparents lived. Where were your children raised. Where your entire life was.
The war has taken this away from millions of Ukrainians.
People have been forced to leave their homes to escape occupation, shelling, and combat. They have lost not only their homes, but also their way of life, their belongings, their neighbours, their favourite places, and their sense of security.
Even when compassionate people are there to help and provide shelter, the pain of losing one’s home remains for a long time. It is one of the deepest wounds inflicted by war.
That is why, since 2022, the team of the NGO “All-Ukrainian Association ‘Patriot’” has been supporting people affected by the war and occupation. We assist internally displaced persons, work with relocated communities, and help those who have been forced to rebuild their lives from the beginning.
In recent days, Ganna Maiboroda visited the modular housing community in Irpin, where people who have lost their homes are now living. Among the residents are 130 children.
Thanks to the support of our friend Anna Bietina and her friends from the United States, toys were donated to the children.
It may seem like a small gift, but the children’s smiles remind us once again that sometimes it takes very little to bring happiness – especially to children whose childhood is unfolding in the midst of war.
We cannot return people’s homes or restore the lives they had before the war. But we can bring a little joy, warmth, and care into their lives. We can show them that they are not alone in facing these hardships.
Sometimes, it is these simple acts of kindness that matter the most.
