SupportOn 6 March 2022, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Office of the NGO “All-Ukrainian Association ‘Patriot’” established an assistance point for families affected by the war. Operating 24/7, our volunteers welcomed people, helped them with their most urgent needs, and provided clothing, food, and support.
It was here that evacuees from Mariupol were first received, followed by everyone travelling to Ukrainian-controlled territory along the “Road of Life.” Volunteers provided initial psychological support and assisted people with their onward evacuation to safer locations.
As a result of the full-scale invasion, thousands of people were left without a home. With the onset of winter, this challenge became especially acute. In response, the team of the NGO “All-Ukrainian Association ‘Patriot’” made the decision to establish temporary accommodation for those in need of shelter.
Following the renovation and preparation of the premises, the “Patriot” Shelter in Zaporizhzhia opened its doors to its first residents in June 2023.
Since then, the Shelter has provided refuge to 524 people. It has become a genuine community where residents cook together, take part in events, support one another, and rediscover a sense of home even in the most difficult times.
Despite the ongoing challenges of war, air raid alerts, nearby explosions, and power outages, the Shelter continues to operate. And its story continues.
In 2023, a humanitarian hub was established at the “Patriot” Shelter, providing assistance to Shelter residents, internally displaced persons, and other vulnerable groups.
Over the years, residents have received psychological and legal support, joined volunteer initiatives, participated in educational activities, and supported Ukraine’s defenders.
The “Patriot” Shelter has received a positive assessment from the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights and is included in the official register of collective accommodation facilities in the Zaporizhzhia region.
