Today, we have an interview with Batina Veronika, callsign Gura.
The decisive moment of coming to the front was not a single day or event. It was a path that seemed to lead me here on its own. I was left almost completely alone. I do not communicate with my mother. My father died at Donetsk Airport.
On my father’s side, I come from a military family. My grandmother was also in the military. She became the only person who supported my decision to join the army. She said she had long known that I would follow my father’s path. Although I barely remember my father, since my parents had already separated when I was three.
My grandmother was the only one who told me honestly: “It will be difficult.” But she didn’t try to stop me.
After the war, I dream of simple things. Of my own home. Of my own family. If I have almost no parents left, then I must create something of my own. My own home, my own support, my own family.
I really want my future children to never experience what I went through. To know what peace is, not war. To have a childhood. And to always have a home to return to.
