Interview within the framework of the “For Her” project with Khrystyna Pekar

As part of the “For Her” project, we continue a series of interviews with women who are currently serving in the military.

Today, we are speaking with Nadiia Khrystyna Pekar.

Nadiia has been in the military since 2014. After graduating from college, she spent only half a year at home. At that time, she was 19. She says she was still very young, but felt that she wanted to serve.

Her family did not take her decision easily. Nadiia is the only and very much wanted child in the family. Her father initially distanced himself and said she should do what she believed was right. Her mother was worried and only asked that her daughter would not regret her choice or cry about it later.

Now everything is different. Her parents have become her greatest support.

Before going to the ATO, she heard many frightening stories from people. But when she arrived there, she realized that reality was different. She says that it turned out not to be as scary as people described.

Nadiia has a simple and very warm dream, when we achieve victory. Together with her brothers- and sisters-in-arms, she wants to go to the Carpathians – to spend time together, rest, and remember the entire path they have gone through.
